March Meeting

Join us virtually on Wednesday, March 3, at 4:30 PM to learn more about quite interesting bioinformatics subjects. You will have the pleasure to hear,

  • 4:30, José Héctor Gálvez,  VirusSeq project at the McGill Genome Centre
  • 5:00, Rached Alkallas,  Estimating and controlling for differences in cell type proportions in the analysis of bulk RNA-seq data

Héctor will cover Québec VirusSeq project, with a focus on the bioinformatics pipelines and infrastructure required to sequence and genotyping thousands of SARS-CoV-2 viral samples*.

Rached, who is interested in cataloguing and understanding the molecular alterations that underlie cutaneous melanoma, will dig into bulk RNA-seq analysis.

We will use jitsi for the meeting (see the link on the Meetup Page). The event will also be streamed on YouTube Live: https://youtu.be/05UqUVam928

You can register for the meeting on our  Meetup Page, or by sending an email to info@monbug.ca.  And contact us via Meetup or email if you would like to present to a future event.  We are always looking for enthusiast and enthusiastic presenters.

* Here is the complete summary of Héctor’s talk:

VirusSeq project at the McGill Genome Centre : This talk will cover the Quebec VirusSeq project, with a focus on the bioinformatics pipelines and infrastructure required to sequence and genotyping thousands of SARS-CoV-2 viral samples. Both short-read and long-read technologies will be discussed, including the main differences in the tools used for variant calling, and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Finally, a summary of the timeline of the projects and the main results published so far will be also presented.
