Virginie Calderon is the new head of the bioinformatics core facility at the IRCM.
She will also be assisting us in holding the MonBUG meetings at the IRCM.
She will be presenting the research she did during her post-PhD on the tranmission of hepatitis C with Dr. Souydens at Ste-Justine, and her research on codon reassignments with Dr Mabrouk, Dr Lang (UdeM), and Dr Blanchette (McGill).
Janosch Ortmann is a mathematician, a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre de recherches mathématiques of the Université de Montréal.
He will be presenting his research on sequence alignments.
Having a mathematician present at MonBUG is an opportunity for us to increase collaborations between mathematicians and bioinformaticians.
Janosch is particularly interested in exchanging with bioinformaticians on practical applications of his research in genomics.
Steven Hébert is a bioinformatics analysts at the Lady Davis Institute, in the lab of Dr. Kleinman. He will be presenting Docker, which has become a commonly used tool to distribute bioinformatics programs in different environments.
